Good afternoon Ray Warrior Families!
I am so excited to announce two new after school programs for our 4th-8th grade students! The first one is an after school sports program called "Focus on Fitness" that is available to both in-person and remote students. The in-person students have the option of meeting from 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM on Monday and Tuesdays before school, or from 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM after school on Mondays and Tuesdays. The remote students have the option of meeting from 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM on Thursdays and Fridays after school. This program will involve stretching, cardio, contactless games, and running. Below is the excerpt from Coach McNaughton, who very kindly organized this for our 5th - 8th grade students. "We are excited to offer the CPS SCORE! Focus on Fitness program for 5th–8th grade students from April 26–May 28, 2021 at Ray. Focus on Fitness is a fun physical fitness program open to students who are learning in-person and at-home this spring. Participating students will attend the program for an hour after school twice a week. The program will focus on running, strength and conditioning, and whatever sports skills and games we are able to play. The entire program will be OUTSIDE ONLY, and is only for students in grades 5-8. IN PERSON STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE ONLY 1 TIME MONDAY AND TUESDAY 7:30AM-8:30AM OR MONDAY AND TUESDAY 3:45PM-4:45PM FULLY REMOTE STUDENTS CAN CHOOSE ONLY 1 TIME THURSDAY AND FRIDAY 7:30-8:30AM OR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY 3:45-4:45PM Health and Safety Protocols To protect the health of our students and staff, all CPS elementary sports programs will adhere to public health and safety protocols, as described in the Elementary SCORE! Sports Guidelines, and the Focus on Fitness Guidelines, which have been approved by CPS and City of Chicago Health Officials. All Focus on Fitness activities will be conducted on school grounds, and in-person and virtual learners will be placed in separate, fixed pods. Individual pods will be restricted to 20 people or less (a maximum of 19 students and one coach). Once the pods are fixed, no new students may be added. If a student drops out of the program for any reason, the pod will be reduced by that number. Prior to each Focus on Fitness session, parents must complete the CPS Health Screener for their student in order for them to be allowed at practice. Registration and More Information: If you are interested in having your child participate in this program, please review and complete the linked student packet forms (in your HOMEROOM teacher’s google classroom) and return them to Mr. McNaughton, the office at Ray, or email them to [email protected] by Friday, April 23, 2021. There also will be physical copies available at Ray. Any questions, please email [email protected]." Our other after school program is a free music clinic, and below is a description of it: "Free Music Clinics for CPS StudentsWe are pleased to announce and respond to the feedback from our music festivals survey sent in December 2020 by offering instrument and voice-specific clinics for the 20-21 school year! The clinics will encourage students to play individually at home, meet other musicians from across the city, and receive instrument-specific information live in Google Meets. The participating colleges and organizations are as follows: Jazz Institute of Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Northern Illinois University, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Chicago Symphony Chorus. There are six different session dates and over 25 clinics specific to ensemble type, instrument, vocal part, and other musical areas of interest (conducting, jazz, etc.) for FREE for you and your students. These clinics are available for students in grades 4-12 from ANY CPS school (elementary, charter, high school, contract, options). The clinicians are aware of the wide range of ability levels across CPS. They will make the session applicable to any group. To view the complete calendar of offered clinics, please view the Music Festivals Clinic Schedule here. To learn more about each offered clinic, please view the Music Festivals Clinic Information document. (Please note that we are still receiving information, and we will update this on a rolling basis). The first session started this past Saturday. Please share the registration form with your students. Teachers or a Parent/Guardian may register students on their behalf, or students may register themselves via this form. There are various types of sessions and dates/times available. Please select all sessions that the student/you are interested in attending. If interested, students can participate in multiple clinics. You will receive an invitation with the GoogleMeet link to the virtual session(s) 24 hours before the event. Sessions will be available for registration up to 24 hours before the event. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to offering this new opportunity to you through the music festivals program within the Department of Arts Education. " Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! 😊

This is Señorita Dent once again to let you know the minor changes in the Spanish, as well as to give you the GoogleMeet links again. The only changes to the Spanish schedule are that I am only seeing Ms. Schuch's Room 214 class only on Mondays from 1:45 - 2:45 PM (1:55 PM - 2:40 PM for the remote students) and am no longer seeing them on Tuesdays. I am no longer seeing Ms. Garcia's 3/4 Room 202 Split Class on Fridays from 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM, I am only seeing them on Thursdays at that time. I am no longer seeing Ms. Maltz's Room Kindergarten Room 101 class on Thursdays, I am only seeing them from 12:45 - 1:45 PM (12:55 - 1:40 PM for the remote students) on Fridays. I am instead seeing Ms. Havnoonians 8th-Grade Room 302 class from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM (9:10 AM - 10:55 AM for the remote students) on Tuesdays only. I am also seeing Ms. Johnson-Finner's 8th-Grade class remotely only from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM on Fridays. This link will never change. If your student has trouble joining the meet then please have them try again a few minutes later once I have turned on the "Quick Access feature." I am so excited to see more students in person starting on Monday and please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help. My email is [email protected].
